Context and Discovery
The fragment was found in storage at Gotlands Museum without bearing an inventory number or further information.

Measurements, Material and Condition
The small, irregularly shaped fragment preserves a small, roughly rectangular section of the decorated surface, which is well preserved and shows no traces of weathering or abrasion. The piece measures about 33 x 26 cm and is 13 cm thick. All four sides have broken edges. The background fields of the bas-relief were redrawn with black paint after the fragment was found. The paint is still visible.

Description of Ornament and Images
The images are executed in bas-relief technique, the background fields carved less than a millimeter deep. The relief is weak but perfectly preserved. On the preserved piece of the surface, a horizontal narrow strip can be seen along one of the long sides of the fragment, which probably represents a lower frame line of an image panel. Two triangles emanate from about the middle of this strip, with their tips pointing upwards. To the left and right of the triangles, a horse’s leg and, above it, small parts of the horse’s belly can be seen. Comparable images of horses striding over triangular obstacles can be seen on several late-type picture stones such as GP 244 Lokrume kyrka and GP 352 Silte stenbro 2.

Type and Dating
The fragment belongs to a late-type picture stone; the motif and the execution of the bas-relief clearly indicate “Abschnitt” C/D according to Lindqvist’s typology. Those monuments can only be roughly dated to the period between the 8th century (or rather around AD 800) and the 10th century.
