Context and Discovery
The fragment was found in Gotlands Museum storage without bearing an inventory number or further information.

Measurements, Material and Condition
The fragment is approximately rectangular and measures about 37 x 25 cm. The limestone slab is about 13 cm thick. All four sides are broken edges. The surface is relatively even, only a little irregular here and there. Traces of weathering or abrasion are hardly noticeable.

Description of Ornament and Images
The images are executed in bas-relief technique, the background fields carved less than a millimeter deep. The relief is weak but perfectly preserved. A narrow strip runs in longitudinal direction across the surface, dividing it into a larger (approx. 2/3) and a smaller (approx. 1/3) part. Obviously, the strip represents a horizontal frame line of an image panel. In the larger (lower) part of the surface, only a few chiseled areas can be seen here and there. On the other side clearly discernible elongated elements rise up from the horizontal frame line, which cannot be interpreted more precisely, however, because the panel is not completely preserved and the depictions are cut off. Possibly, they represent the legs of a human figure and/or parts of a building.

Interpretation of the Imagery
No interpretation

Type and Dating
The fragment belongs to a late-type picture stone; the execution of the bas-relief clearly indicates “Abschnitt” C/D according to Lindqvist’s typology. Those monuments can only be roughly dated to the period between the 8th century (or rather around AD 800) and the 10th century.
