Context and Discovery
The fragment was found in the storage of Gotlands Museum. No further information.

Measurements, Material and Condition
Small limestone fragment of an early type picture stone which preserves parts of the original upper edge. (In Lamm’s list, the inventory number C11001 is noted, but this is an error; it should be C11000.) The other edges of the fragment are broken edges. GP 304 fits to another fragment, GP 320 Unknown Find Spot, which is larger and comprises the upper left corner of the monument.

The preserved narrow side – the upper side – is evenly worked. This side is slightly bevelled. Between the upper narrow side and the obverse there seems to have been a narrow chamfer, but this is now quite abraded. The monument’s obverse is absolutely flat, but appears unworked and seems to have been heavily textured originally. Now it is very worn and weathered. The carved lines are still clearly visible when illuminated appropriately. The slab is circa 15–19 cm thick, circa 28 cm wide and circa 40 cm high.

Description of Ornament and Images
Three parallel lines are carved out of the surface so that they appear raised, parallel along the upper edge to form the border decoration. This border also runs along the other fragment GP 320 Unknown Find Spot. If there were any ornaments between those lines that are about 10 cm apart from each other, is hard to say today. The fragment is not painted.

Type and Dating
The fragment belongs to a tall early type picture stone, i.e. Type A according to Lindqvist’s typology, dating to between AD 400 and 600. The layout of the border decoration and also the proportions of the monument correspond to the type A stones GP 537 Vallstena Vallstenarum I and GP 554 Väskinde kyrka 5 (regarding the Vallstenagruppe see Lindqvist 1941/42 I, p. 28).
