Context and Discovery
The fragment was found in storage at Gotlands Museum without bearing an inventory number or further information.

Measurements, Material and Condition
The fragment of a limestone slab preserves an approximately 57 cm long section of the original lateral edge of a picture stone. The other three sides of the piece represent broken edges. The irregular broken edge opposite the original edge is about the same length, the maximum distance between the two sides is 38 cm. The preserved narrow side and the edge are extremely accurately worked and well preserved. The narrow side is hewn straight at right angles to the face of the stone. The edge has a very narrow and fine chamfer. In addition, it can be observed that the surface slopes slightly from the grooves of the border decoration towards the edge. The surface of the stone, on the other hand, appears to have been less worked. It is relatively flat but quite irregularly textured.

Description of Ornament and Images
Along the preserved edge run two parallel, closely spaced, not particularly deep and wide grooves. They form the only border decoration. There are no other carvings on the stone.

Interpretation of the Imagery
No interpretation

Type and Dating
Probably, the fragment belongs to a tall early-type picture stone, i.e., Type A according to Lindqvist’s typology, dating between AD 400 and 600. Due to the fragmentary condition and the lack of further decorative elements a more precise classification is not possible. The particularly elaborate design of the edge is remarkable.
